LAW SCHOOL
I’m just a few weeks out of law school and I’ve already got work lined up in a Detroit bankruptcy law firm. The economy is still terrible and it isn’t getting a whole lot better, which is really bad for most people, but for bankruptcy lawyers a poor economy usually means more work. Lay offs and cut backs on overtime cause people to struggle when paying their bills. Many people can’t recover from falling behind, especially when there isn’t more work out there to be had – this leads to more and more people being forced into filing for bankruptcy. This overwhelms the bankruptcy law firms with work, causing them to hire recent graduates to help take care of the overflow without spending too much money for the help. The recent grads, such as myself, luck out because we get valuable experience and one foot in the door at a busy firm. If we can snap out of the “college life” and delve right into the working world successfully we could have a guaranteed job for life. Unfortunately there are always going to be people who can’t afford to pay their bills for one reason or another and being able to help them out of debt is as good a job as any, and you could do a lot worse than working in the legal field.
